Content Policy

This Content Policy explains what belongs on Family-Friendly Events and what doesn't. It applies to everything you post — vendor profiles, photos and videos, descriptions, reviews, community events you submit to our calendar, messages, and any other content you add to the site. It works alongside our Terms of Service and is written to keep the directory genuinely useful and genuinely family-friendly. This policy is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service.
The short version: post real, accurate content that a parent browsing with their child would feel comfortable seeing. If you do that, you'll never run into this policy.
What "family-friendly" means here
Every vendor on the site has agreed that their business is appropriate for events where guests of all ages are present — including children and grandparents. That's our core promise to families, and it's the standard your content needs to meet.
Family-friendly does not mean children-only entertainment, no alcohol, or no adult humor. An open bar at a wedding is fine. A DJ who also plays late-night club gigs is fine, as long as the profile describes the family-event side of their work.
Family-friendly does mean your public-facing content — your photos, your wording, your media — would not embarrass a parent viewing it alongside their child. When we're deciding a close call, that's the question we ask: would a parent browsing this profile with their 8-year-old feel comfortable? If yes, it stays.
We judge content, not identity
Our standards are about what a listing contains and how it's presented — its photos, wording, performances, and themes — not about who a vendor, organizer, or reviewer is. The same rules apply equally to everyone, regardless of religion, politics, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or background. We look at whether content is suitable for an all-ages audience, and at whether adult-oriented material is a central part of it — never at the identity or beliefs of the people involved. We do not ask about, consider, or base any listing decision on a protected characteristic.
What's allowed
- Photos and videos of your real work — actual events, performances, and spaces you've served or operate.
- Honest descriptions of your services, pricing range, and the areas you cover.
- Genuine answers to the family-friendly profile prompts that describe how you serve families.
- Reviews that reflect a real, first-hand experience with a vendor.
What's prohibited
The following will be removed, and serious or repeated violations can lead to suspension or removal of your account:
- Sexual or explicit content. No nudity or implied nudity (for example, boudoir photography portfolios, even where no nudity is visible), sexualized imagery or performance, or other adult-oriented content or themes not appropriate for an all-ages audience — whatever the identity or orientation of the people involved. Content whose central purpose or presentation is adult-oriented does not belong here, even where a different version of it might be family-appropriate.
- Content that targets or exploits minors. Zero tolerance. We remove such content immediately, preserve and report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as federal law requires, and cooperate with law enforcement.
- Hate speech and harassment. No slurs, discriminatory content, threats, or content that demeans a person or group.
- Graphic violence or other disturbing material not appropriate for a family context.
- Illegal activity. No content that promotes or facilitates illegal services.
- Spam and deceptive content. No bulk or automated fake listings, keyword stuffing, phishing, or off-site lead-generation links dressed up as a profile.
Accuracy and honesty in listings
Your profile is a promise to the families who find you. Keep it true.
- Use your real business name — a legal name or DBA, not a keyword-stuffed string.
- List the categories and service areas you actually serve, not ones you'd like to rank for.
- Don't make false claims about awards, certifications, or credentials. If you mention a certification from a verifying body, be prepared to back it up.
- Photos must be your own work. Don't pass off stock imagery or someone else's events as your own.
- Disclose your fees. Don't surprise clients with charges you didn't list.
Knowingly providing false or misleading information is grounds for removal.
Review integrity
Reviews are a trust signal for families and a reputation that vendors earn over time. Fake reviews damage both, so we hold them to a clear standard.
- Reviews must describe an actual interaction with the vendor.
- You may not review your own business, or post a review through an employee, family member, or anyone with a stake in the outcome.
- Incentivized reviews — paid for, discounted, or exchanged for anything — are not allowed unless that arrangement is clearly and conspicuously disclosed in the review itself. Offering anything of value in exchange for a positive review, or conditioned on a review's sentiment, is prohibited whether or not it is disclosed.
- Vendors may respond to reviews professionally and may flag a review they believe is fraudulent, but may not pressure a reviewer to remove honest feedback.
We remove reviews that violate these rules. If you're a vendor and believe a review is false or defamatory, contact us at [email protected] — don't take it up with the reviewer directly.
Reviews and vendor responses are the statements of their authors, not of Family-Friendly Events, and we do not adopt or endorse them. Flagging a review does not guarantee removal; we review flags in good faith under this policy.
Intellectual property
Only post content you own or have permission to use. Don't upload photos, video, music, text, or logos that infringe someone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights. If you believe content on the site infringes your rights, contact us at [email protected] and we'll review it. Permission includes people: only post images or video of identifiable individuals with their consent, and post images or video of an identifiable minor only with the consent of the minor's parent or legal guardian.
A curated directory
Family-Friendly Events is a curated directory, not an open platform. The directory is an expressive, curated publication, and deciding which listings to include and how to present them is an editorial judgment about the collection of vendors and events we present to families. A listing here is something we extend, not a right, and we may decline or remove any profile, event, or piece of content that we judge inconsistent with our family-friendly promise or these standards. We apply that judgment consistently and in good faith, based on content and conduct rather than the identity or beliefs of the people involved. When we decline or remove a listing, we base the decision on the written standards in this policy and record the content-based reason for the decision. If we decline or remove something and you think we got it wrong, you can ask us to take another look through the appeal process below.
How we enforce this policy
We review new vendor profiles before they go live, and we review content that gets reported. We are not obligated to pre-screen all content, and our review of some content does not create an obligation to review all content. Depending on what we find, the outcome may be:
- No action — the content is fine and stays as is.
- An edit request — we ask you to update or remove a specific piece of content.
- A warning — a note explaining what crossed the line, with time to fix it.
- Suspension — your profile is hidden from the public while the issue is resolved.
- Removal — for serious or repeated violations, your content or account is taken down.
We apply this judgment in good faith and in line with the standards above.
How to report content
If you see something on the site that doesn't belong here, tell us. You can use the report option where it's available on a profile or review, or email us at [email protected] with a link to the content and a short note about the problem. Reports are reviewed by our team.
How to appeal
If your content was removed or your account was suspended and you think we got it wrong, you can appeal within 14 days. Email [email protected] with the subject line "Content Appeal" and explain why you believe the decision was incorrect — for example, that a flagged photo was from a family event, or that you've made the changes we asked for.
We review appeals in good faith, usually within five business days. Our decision on an appeal is final.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Content Policy as the site grows. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above. Where a change materially affects your obligations, we will notify account holders and, where our Terms of Service require it, ask you to re-accept. Questions about this policy can go to [email protected].
