Family-Friendly Events is committed to being usable by everyone who plans events for their family — including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology. Accessibility is a launch-blocking commitment for us, not a finishing touch.
Our standard
We strive to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA across the whole site — the public directory and vendor profiles, search and browsing, and the vendor and client dashboards — and we build and test against that standard. We apply the same principles to the emails we send. Where the newer WCAG 2.2 criteria are inexpensive to adopt — such as visible focus, larger touch targets, and consistent help — we design for them too. Our conformance target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA; adopting individual WCAG 2.2 criteria is opportunistic and is not a commitment to full WCAG 2.2 conformance.
What we do to get there
- Automated and manual checks. Our continuous-integration pipeline runs automated accessibility tests (axe-core) on our home page and blocks changes that introduce violations there; other pages are checked with structural (markup-level) tests and by manual review against WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Keyboard and screen-reader support. We design every interactive element to be reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator, and labeled for assistive technology.
- Color and contrast. Text and essential interface elements meet AA contrast ratios, in both light and dark modes.
- Meaningful structure. Pages use proper headings, landmarks, and alternative text so their content is navigable without sight of the screen.
- Respect for user settings. We honor reduced-motion preferences and support browser zoom and text resizing without loss of content.
Known limitations
We are honest about where we are still improving. As of the effective date of this statement:
- Vendor-supplied media. Photos, videos, and audio uploaded by vendors may not always include full alternative text or captions. We prompt vendors to provide them and are working toward stronger requirements. If vendor media is inaccessible to you, contact us and we will help you get that information in an accessible format.
- Third-party embeds. Embedded content such as maps, video players, and virtual tours comes from outside providers whose accessibility we do not fully control. We choose privacy- and accessibility-respecting options where they exist and always offer a plain link as a fallback.
- Ongoing audits. New features are audited as they ship. A formal, independent audit and a published VPAT are on our roadmap as the platform matures; we have not committed to a publication date.
